Hey Folks,
Michelle and I both want to thank you from the bottoms of our hearts. We had our first opportunity to give sleeping bags to the homeless last night. All of your contributions have made this dream a reality. Just a few short weeks ago, Michelle and I were sitting on the bleachers watching Sutton play soccer. We first discussed this desire to give sleeping bags to the homeless. Last night was the realization of that desire. Thank you so much. Your gifts are making this effort take to the road.
Last night Ron & Michelle, Todd, Miles and I met to give out the first batch. We went to two tent camps under the overpasses. Miles and I had scouted them out earlier that day. I started getting excited as we met these people. Some of them had tents, others had makeshift coverings. All of them were receptive and appreciative. I found my niche. I love giving without any possible expectation of reciprocation. We gave out thirty-five sleeping bags to people who would have otherwise been very cold.
I have to pace myself. The needs are so great. I want to do so much. But, we can only do what God gives us. This is what Jesus said about doing only that which we are called to do: “I glorified You on the earth, having accomplished the work which You have given Me to do,” (John 17:4). Jesus spoke these words as He saw His physical presence on earth coming to an end. I find it interesting that He said that He had accomplished “the work You have given Me to do.” There were still homeless people, sick people, crippled people, lost people. Jesus had a clear understanding that He had a specific purpose that would be fulfilled while on earth. He wasn’t sweating it. He didn’t say, “God, I hope I got enough done.” Or, “I could have done more.” Nope, He was clear in His purpose. It was fulfilled.
All of us have a similar purpose. I remember many occasions when people would bring good ministry ideas and opportunities to my attention. I couldn’t do them all. There was no way. I was satisfied to do only what I was called to do.
Michelle and I don’t anticipate that we will alleviate all the pain of the homeless. But last night, thirty-five people slept warmer. We will hand out more sleeping bags. More people will sleep warm. If God blesses this effort, we will open our minds and hearts to do only what He calls us to do.
You have blessed Michelle and me. You have blessed the team that was able to go with us last night. You have blessed homeless people who are individuals just like you and I. You have glorified God with your gifts. You answered a call to give. You are fulfilling the purpose that God has called you to fulfill. Along with Michelle, I pray for wisdom as we continue this effort. We have more bags to deliver.
Thank you, your servants, your friends,
Tim and Michelle
