Feeding of the Homeless

There were 49 of us serving the homeless today. It was great. We were able to serve them chili, soup, sandwiches, brownies, cookies, and drinks. We also packed bags with packages of crackers, fruit, and breakfast bars. In addition to this, we sent them away with gifts containing batteries, flashlights, gloves, toboggans, and socks. I was so pleased with how well things went. My best assessment leads me to believe that we served somewhere around 120-140 people.

Having so many people helping allowed some to move around and speak with those whom we were serving. I was so happy to see so many engaged in conversations with these wonderful people. I was thrilled to watch as some of you served the food. It was a great day. God filled my heart to see this. I am only sad because Michelle Shults had to be away.

I spoke with Michelle afterwards to share the good news. She was with her new granddaughter. It made her very happy to hear of what happened today. She is excited to be at the next opportunity to serve. More details will come soon regarding this.

I have to say thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who helped. I want to say a special thanks to Tina Phillips for acting as the hub. All of you are absolutely awesome. I am a blessed man to know you. This has made Christmas extra special to me. I pray that it was that special to lives of those whom we encountered today.

I used to think that I truly knew what giving meant. I believe now that I am learning more and more each day about real giving. Giving takes on exceptional depth when it is done to those who cannot give back in return. When I go to a gathering or party at Christmas, I give something and I get something. Today the transaction was one-way. We were able to give; our recipients had nothing to give back.

Jesus came to us in a similar way. I had nothing to offer Jesus when he came to me. As a matter of fact, I didn’t realize that I needed anything. He pricked my heart. I looked up. I saw Him standing there with open arms. He gave Himself to me. I received Him. I remember thinking before this encounter with Jesus that I needed to bring something to Him. When He called me, I immediately knew that I had nothing to offer.

Today, we gave a simple meal. But somewhere in all of that, Jesus was made known. I know that because of the way I saw Him in all of You. You may think, “I didn’t say anything to anyone.” Jesus doesn’t always need your voice. Often He makes Himself known in earthly kindness, a gesture of joy, a touch of love. I saw all of these things today. I am proud of the Jesus that I saw in you today. Our Daddy shined like the sun through you today. It’s just like Him to do something so cool.

I am full. I am spilling over with joy. Michelle and I started out with a simple desire, to help the homeless with physical needs. Our Daddy did exceedingly more than we imagined. Sometimes He shows off for us. I love it when He does that.

Paris Please!

Greetings from Israel! I am in Tiberias. I am having trouble posting to my normal blogspot at timbslim.blogspot.com. So, I have pasted it into this e-mail. I'll try to get the blog up soon. Otherwise I will e-mail it to you. I must first tell you about our stop in Paris. We planned to ride into downtown Paris due to the fact that we had about 7 hours between flights. I want to go ahead and go on record to say that driving from the airport (which takes 45 minutes) into Paris to tour the city is not, I repeat, not a good idea. I will attempt to convey all of the reasons for this. Remember we were on a bus. I think our most obvious obstacle was the fact that when we got off the plane, we were immediately forced to interact with French people. This in and off itself is a recipe for disaster. Might I add that French people don’t make a whole lot of effort to speak good English. It could be because their heads are so far up their own butts that even their ears are covered. ...

Joie de la vie

James Bond was always one of my heroes growing up. I absolutely love all the movies. I actually own the DVD’s to quite a few of them. Unlike most Bond fans, Roger Moore is my favorite, not Sean Connery. I think Pierce Brosnen did a bang up job as well. Some of you don’t know who James Bond is; shame on you. Please don’t quit reading this blog because I am exposing my fanatical James Bond allegiance. There is a greater meaning here. Hang Tight. The affinity for James Bond movies is a symptom of what seems like an insatiable desire for adventure. I have always been like that. I love adventure. I have always loved doing things that others think are ridiculous, whether it be jumping out of trees onto a trampoline, jumping from cliffs into the ocean, jumping out of planes, or being in places in the Middle East where bombs have been dropped. It gets my adrenaline going. There is nothing like adrenaline coursing through your veins. Sometimes you get that taste of iron in your m...

Hell Hound

My car has been in the shop for a couple of days. That sucks. They are replacing the cooling system. That sounds cheap doesn’t’ it? I started cleaning the grout in the kitchen tile. That has been real thrill. Around 11 years ago Brent Roberts and I were driving north on 69 Highway. We had been to Birmingham. We were talking about seeing demons. I was telling him about what my dad had experienced. He and I both talked about feeling like we were in the presence of something demonic at different points in our lives. Neither of us had personally seen anything that we could say was a demon. That was about to change. Now, I don’t expect anybody to believe what I am about to tell. I actually don’t tell this story much in a public forum. The reason that I don’t tell it is because it does simply sound to weird to be true. So, I will tell you exactly what I saw. You can judge for yourselves. Real or not, this is the way it happened. As I said earlier, Brent and I were talking ab...
