Disturb Us

Last night I had dinner with Holly and Sandy. You might know them. They live close to me. Great girls. Holly was in my youth group in Jasper. Sandy is from two-tooth, Alabama, her words. Sandy's cats are cool. Sandy also just bout a BMW Z4. Wow!

Jake Pohly came by last night about 12:00am. I had to sign something for his trip saying that I would pick him up from Florida on August 15. Road Trip! Woohoo! Man, he's gonna be gone for two whole months.

"Disturb us Lord, when we are too well pleased with ourselves, when our dreams have come true because we have dreamed too little, when we arrive safely because we have sailed too closely to the shore.

Disturb us Lord, when with abundace of things we possess, we have lost our thirst for the waters of life; having fallen in love with life, we have ceased to dream of eternity; and in our efforts to build a new earth, we have allowed our vision of the new heaven to dim.

Distrub us Lord, to dare more boldly, to venture on wilder seas where storms will show your mastery; when losing sight of land, we will find the stars. We ask you to push back the horizons of our hopes, and to push into the future in strength, courage, hope, and love." Sir Francis Drake

Failing to dream has to be the beginning of the end. Failing to dream must be where depression and hopelessness set in. Think about it. If you have a dream, you have something to look forward to. If you see a vision, you can get up everyday and follow after it. Dreams are beautiful. That is also why Satan is so persistent in destroying them.

I believe that there are some people who never really dream. I have met some. Some people are crippled by hoplessness from early on in life. I remember once when I was in Jordan, the country that borders Israel. I saw a group of little kids. These little kids were dirty, hot and barefoot. Yet, they had on pants and sweaters. The temperature was about 110 degrees. I was shocked to see them so covered with clothing in the heat. They were so dirty. This little boy approached us clean and groomed Americans. Each of us were carrying a one liter bottle of water. I am sure this little boy's mouth was parched. He had a cigar box in his hands. I have no clue where he got it, probably stole it. In the box were rocks that he had picked up off the ground nearby. I know because there were plenty around. He was asking for a dollar for each rock. Needless to say, we emptied our pockets of dollars and refilled them with rocks. We also left our water. I bet this little boy dreams very little and that his dreams are much different than mine. But, what if he did dream bigger than his life.

Sir Francis Drake said that we should dare to dream much bigger than we are. We should not stay close to the shore, anybody can do that. We should shove our boats out into the sea where the only thing to use as a guide are the stars. He says, if we have arrived safely it is only because we didn't sail far enough from the shore. If we achieve our dreams, it is only because our dreams were to small. We love life too much in its comfort. For the love of God, dream bigger, sail farther. Do something that matters.

God disturb us. Shake us up. Rock our world. Shove us around so that we are forced to see your beauty and follow after it with white hot passion. We love our lives too much to dream. We would rather accept mediocrity than to dream of greatness. Our vision of heaven is dim. Is dimmed by our love for our world. Disturb us O Lord. We won't choose to be disturbed. So, do it for us.

I love you, your servant, your friend,
Tim

Paris Please!

Greetings from Israel! I am in Tiberias. I am having trouble posting to my normal blogspot at timbslim.blogspot.com. So, I have pasted it into this e-mail. I'll try to get the blog up soon. Otherwise I will e-mail it to you. I must first tell you about our stop in Paris. We planned to ride into downtown Paris due to the fact that we had about 7 hours between flights. I want to go ahead and go on record to say that driving from the airport (which takes 45 minutes) into Paris to tour the city is not, I repeat, not a good idea. I will attempt to convey all of the reasons for this. Remember we were on a bus. I think our most obvious obstacle was the fact that when we got off the plane, we were immediately forced to interact with French people. This in and off itself is a recipe for disaster. Might I add that French people don’t make a whole lot of effort to speak good English. It could be because their heads are so far up their own butts that even their ears are covered. ...

Joie de la vie

James Bond was always one of my heroes growing up. I absolutely love all the movies. I actually own the DVD’s to quite a few of them. Unlike most Bond fans, Roger Moore is my favorite, not Sean Connery. I think Pierce Brosnen did a bang up job as well. Some of you don’t know who James Bond is; shame on you. Please don’t quit reading this blog because I am exposing my fanatical James Bond allegiance. There is a greater meaning here. Hang Tight. The affinity for James Bond movies is a symptom of what seems like an insatiable desire for adventure. I have always been like that. I love adventure. I have always loved doing things that others think are ridiculous, whether it be jumping out of trees onto a trampoline, jumping from cliffs into the ocean, jumping out of planes, or being in places in the Middle East where bombs have been dropped. It gets my adrenaline going. There is nothing like adrenaline coursing through your veins. Sometimes you get that taste of iron in your m...

Hell Hound

My car has been in the shop for a couple of days. That sucks. They are replacing the cooling system. That sounds cheap doesn’t’ it? I started cleaning the grout in the kitchen tile. That has been real thrill. Around 11 years ago Brent Roberts and I were driving north on 69 Highway. We had been to Birmingham. We were talking about seeing demons. I was telling him about what my dad had experienced. He and I both talked about feeling like we were in the presence of something demonic at different points in our lives. Neither of us had personally seen anything that we could say was a demon. That was about to change. Now, I don’t expect anybody to believe what I am about to tell. I actually don’t tell this story much in a public forum. The reason that I don’t tell it is because it does simply sound to weird to be true. So, I will tell you exactly what I saw. You can judge for yourselves. Real or not, this is the way it happened. As I said earlier, Brent and I were talking ab...
